Francis Roper (of the parish of Neath) on 23 March 1760 assaulted Jane John in the parish of Llantwit with a knife (value 3d) giving her a mortal wound 4" long and 4" deep across the front of her neck so that she instantly died (WALES 4/618/4).  He was ordered for execution on Tuesday 15 April and afterwards his body to be hanged in chains near to the murder site (WALES 14/25).
